Oxford Shakespeare Festival Sets Auditions, Schedule for 2012 Season

OXFORD, Miss. – Auditions for Oxford Shakespeare Festival’s 2012 season are set for Feb. 25 at the University of Mississippi.

The auditions begin at 9 a.m. in Isom Hall, Rooms 202 and 302. Sign-up begins at 8:30 a.m. in the hallway. Callbacks will be 1:30-5 p.m. that day.The 2012 season, dubbed “A Season of Destiny,” will present William Shakespeare’s “All’s Well that Ends Well” and “King Lear,” plus the musical “The Sound of Music” by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Festival performances run from June 15 to July 8 in the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.

Rehearsals and set building begin May 17. Housing will be provided for hired out-of-town actors and staff.

Actors auditioning for paid internships or paid principal positions should prepare a memorized two-minute (maximum) Shakespearean monologue and, optionally, one complete song (for “The Sound of Music”) from an operetta or musical/ Actors should bring any sheet music needed.

For actors auditioning for the Associate Company (volunteer, one show), cold readings will be available. One complete song is needed for “The Sound of Music” audition.

The university will also offer summer courses during the first summer term that coincide with the festival. Students can earn credit hours for onstage or backstage work.
