More than 2,000 Freshmen Set to Rush Football Stadium

OXFORD, Miss. – This year’s annual freshmen run at the University of Mississippi will have a big audience. The 2012 Rebel Run, expected to draw more than 2,000 freshmen participants, is set for shortly before kickoff of the Sept. 8 Ole Miss-University of Texas at El Paso football game.

The event is sponsored by the UM Student Programming Board, Department of Campus Programming and the Ole Miss Cardinal Club. The run, which is open to all freshmen, has grown steadily since it began seven years ago.

“To see this endless line of people running for a good 10 minutes, it’s incredible – a huge adrenaline rush,” said Ole Miss senior Doug Odom, who participated in the run his freshmen year. Bradley Baker, director of campus programming, said Rebel Run provides freshmen a unique opportunity.

“As one of the newest Ole Miss game day traditions, it’s a great experience for the students to sprint across the football field with their fellow classmates,” Baker said.

Each Rebel Run participant gets free admission into the game, as well as a free T-shirt. Freshman students interested in participating should log into their “myOleMiss” account and look for the Rebel Run link on the left side of the screen. The registration deadline is noon Friday (Aug. 31), and students can only register online. Rebel Run participants who register will receive more information about pre-event gathering times and locations from their EDHE instructors.
