Team Will Travel To Columbus, Ohio For Central Regional
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss women’s golf team earned its fourth consecutive NCAA Regional bid Monday, as the Rebels were selected to the NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio.
The Central Regional, hosted by the Ohio State University, will be played at the Scarlet Course May 10-12.
“We are excited to be traveling to Ohio State next week,” said Ole Miss head coach Michele Drinkard. “This is a great venue that hosted a national championship a few years ago. The golf course is demanding but fair, and we look forward to the challenge.”
This marks the eighth NCAA Regional appearance for the Rebels, who earned bids in consecutive years in 1998 and 1999 and again in 2003 and 2004, prior to this string of four straight. It also marks the sixth trip for Drinkard as a head coach, as she took Birmingham Southern to the NCAA East Regional and the NCAA Central Regional before taking over at Ole Miss.
The Rebels competed in the NCAA East Regional in 2009 and 2011 and the Central Regional in 2010.
The SEC led the nation with 11 of the 12 members earning NCAA bids. The Central Regional includes seven SEC teams, in conference champion No. 4 Auburn, No. 9 Georgia, No. 10 Vanderbilt, No. 15 Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky and Ole Miss.
In addition to the four top-25 SEC teams, four other ranked teams will participate in the Central Regional: No. 3 Southern California, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 21 Oregon and No. 22 North Carolina State
A total of 24 teams (eight from each regional) and six individuals (two from each regional) will advance to the finals. The championship finals will be held May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legend’s Club in Nashville, Tenn., and will be hosted by Vanderbilt University.
