Rebels Finish Sixth In SEC Championship

Morris, Brozovich Earn Top-20 Finishes

SEA ISLAND, Ga. — Blake Morris shot a 69 on Sunday to earn an 11th-place finish and Billy Brozovich finished 15th, as the Ole Miss men’s golf team took sixth place in the SEC Championship at the Sea Island Golf Club.

The Rebels shot a 5-over for the day, carding a team score of 285 that matched their total from the second round on Saturday.

No. 8 Alabama took home the 2012 SEC Championship, besting in-state rival and defending SEC champion No. 3 Auburn.

Alabama freshman Justin Thomas, rated the No. 6 individual in the nation, won medalist honors.

“It started as a rainy, foggy day,” said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross.  “Conditions were tougher, and we did not start well.  I was proud of our players for hanging tough.  This is a conference of elite players, many of whom will play professional golf after college.”

Morris’ 69 was the third-best individual score recorded on Sunday.  The freshmen was steady the entire day, bogeying just one hole, to finish at 1-over for the tournament and earn his second top-20 of the season.

“Blake did great today, shooting a 69 in the rain,” said Ross.  “I am proud of how he competed.”

After shooting an even-par 70 on Saturday, Brozovich followed with a 71 in the final round.  The senior rolled in three birdies, including a pair on the back-nine.  For Brozovich, it was his third top-20 of the season and the eighth of his career.

Freshman Joe Lewis put together an excellent back-nine, converting three birdies, to card a 72 on Sunday.

Senior Joe David birdied four holes in the back-nine to finish with a 73 and at 6-over in his final SEC Championship.  David, rated the No. 36 individual in the nation, will wait to see if his season will continue in the NCAA Regionals.
