Rebels Set To Begin Play In NCAA Singles And Doubles

Boxx Making Fourth Straight Appearance In Both

ATHENS, Ga. – Ole Miss women’s tennis seniors Kristi Boxx and Abby Guthrie will begin play in the NCAA Individual Championships Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Boxx is seeded 9-16 in the 64-player singles draw and will face Lacey Smyth of Arizona in the first round Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. CT.  The Grenada, Miss., native is making her fourth consecutive NCAA Singles and Doubles appearance.

Currently ranked No. 10 in the nation Boxx owns a 26-10 overall record.  The All-American will be facing Smyth for the first time in her career.  Smyth, a sophomore ranked No. 50, earned All Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors this year.

On Thursday, Boxx will team up with Guthrie in the 32-team doubles draw where the duo, seeded 5-8, will face a tough first round opponent in 15th-ranked Jana Juricova and Zsofi Susanyi of California.  Boxx and Guthrie, ranked No. 7 nationally, will go for their 30th win of the year (29-7).  They are making their second straight NCAA Doubles appearance as a team.
