Croft Institute Welcomes International Scholar for Discussion of European Politics

OXFORD, Miss. – The European Union shares an anthem, Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” plus a flag, a passport cover, an integrated market and a motto, “United in Diversity.” But exactly how the EU functions is a mystery to most Americans.

To shed light on Europe’s political scene, EU scholar Robert Rohrschneider is slated to discuss “Do Political Parties Represent Citizens in Europe?” in a free, public lecture at the University of Mississippi. The event is set for 7 p.m. March 23 in the Croft Institute for International Studies, Room 107.

The Sir Robert Worcester Distinguished Professor of International Public Opinion and Survey Research at the University of Kansas, Rohrschneider is an internationally acclaimed scholar with special expertise in the European Union.

He is the author of “Learning Democracy: Democratic and Economic Values in Unified Germany” and specializes in the academic areas of comparative public opinion, political parties, electoral behavior, democratization, environmentalism and political culture.

Rohrschneider’s lecture is part of the Croft Institute’s Spring Speaker Series. For more information, visit http://www.croft.olemiss.edu/home. For assistance related to a disability, call 662-915-1500.
