Ryan Upshaw has been appointed to the new position of assistant dean of student services in the University of Mississippi School of Engineering.
He brings six years of experience with Ole Miss students, most recently working as coordinator of recruitment and admissions for the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. Upshaw also served as the coordinator of campus visit programs with the Office of Admissions.
Upshaw’s new responsibilities include directing recruitment efforts (i.e., meeting with prospective students and families during campus visits, traveling to high schools and representing the school at university recruitment programs), coordinating scholarship administration and advising the Engineering Student Body. He also will be working with students on career planning, developing and maintaining the school’s co-op program and serving as a liaison with the Ole Miss Career Center. The assistant dean also manages the Engineering Student Ambassador program and serves on the engineering school’s Leadership Council.
“My main goal in this new position is to support our students in every way, from enrollment and orientation to graduation in the historic University Circle,” Upshaw said. “Our engineering students are outstanding and pursue the highest levels of excellence. They are leaders both in and out of the classroom. I look forward to continuing to engage with our students.”
A native of Moss Point, Upshaw earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s in higher education from Ole Miss. A fan of Ole Miss sports, he particularly enjoys football and basketball events.
Active in the Oxford community, Upshaw serves on the Lafayette-Oxford-University United Way board of directors and the steering committee for Leadership Lafayette, a leadership development program coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce. He is also the adviser to the campus chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society.
