Service Shines at Feed the Hunger Event

Volunteer, donate to help fight hunger here and abroad

Once again, the generosity and compassion of Ole Miss students is taking center stage. Volunteers and donations are needed to help Ole Miss students and the L-O-U community put service into action this weekend at the 2014 Feed the Hunger Pack-a-Thon. Participants at the Pack-A-Thon will team up during two-hour shifts at the Jackson Avenue Center to package thousands of life-saving meals for hungry children both in the United States and overseas. Shifts for this weekend’s event are:

Friday, Feb. 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 1 from 9-11 a.m., 12-2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m.

It was not surprising to me to learn that Ole Miss was the first university to host a Pack-a-Thon. Now in its fourth year, the goal is raise $38,000, which will provide funds to purchase nutritious items to fill 140,000 packs. Event organizers are also asking each volunteer to bring items that will support two local charities, More than a Meal and Lovepacks. Requested items are:

More Than A Meal
Name tags
Paper towels
Toilet paper
Men’s deodorant
Laundry Detergent
Backpacks (new or used)

Lovepacks
Pop top vegetable or chicken noodle soup
Boxes of granola bars
Peanut butter crackers
