The concert features the co-winner of the UM music department’s Concerto Competition, Josh Hall, a UM freshman music major from Southaven, and includes the Oxford High School percussion ensemble, directed by Andy Murphy, as special guest.
General admission tickets are $5, available at the UM Box Office in the Student Union.
The performance includes two pieces by Ney Rosauro, “Two Brazilian Steel Dances,” a highly rhythmic composition driven by a samba beat and flowing melodies, and Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra, a version arranged for all percussion instruments.
The ensemble is also expected to perform a Panaroma composition, a Trinidad-based piece by Andy Narrell entitled “We Kinda Music.” A Panaroma is usually seven to 10 minutes in length and performed at carnival time in Trinidad.
