Ole Miss student, Kwanza Boone, recounts some of his experiences while studying abroad in Belize, May 2012. Dr. Kim Shackelford instructed the students. The group examined education, health, and child welfare policy and practice through interaction with persons involved in providing family services on the island of Ambergris Caye. The students worked with the community to assess, plan and implement community change though the San Mateo Empowerment Project. A partnership with the Holy Cross Anglican School allowed students to work directly with children and families. The goal for students is that they obtain knowledge, values, ethics, and skills to work with diverse social, cultural, racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Edited by Deborah Freeland.
