Trekking with Google

Screen Shot 2014-05-19 at 10.42.40 AMHave you even been driving around and seen a car with a giant camera on top? Well, that is Google Street View. They drive all around the country capturing each and every road, so that we can have an interactive view of the country.

I thought the car was pretty cool, until I saw the Google Trekker. Imagine the car being replaced with a human and the camera being part of a backpack and you have the Trekker.

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of accompanying Google Trekker, Alberto on his trek around the Ole Miss campus. Having been on this campus for nearly seven years, I thought that I had seen it all, but boy was I wrong. After nearly 14 hours and countless miles later, we covered a vast majority of the Ole Miss campus on foot, including Rowan Oak and the Campus Walk apartments.

Google has expanded its “Street View” to include walking paths on college campuses, national parks and many other attractions.

Make sure to keep your eye out for the new street view of the Ole Miss campus, it should be live sometime in 2015.
