UM Assistant Professor Receives Fellowship from Texas State Historical Association

Jodi Skipper is gearing up for a trip to the Lone Star State to receive the 2013 Cecilia Steinfeldt Fellowship for Research in the Arts and Material Culture.

Skipper, a Texas native and assistant professor of anthropology and Southern Studies at the University of Mississippi, will receive the impressive fellowship during the 117th Annual Texas State Historical Association meeting, set for Feb. 28-March 2.

The Cecilia Steinfeldt Fellowship for Research in the Arts and Material Culture is given annually for the best research proposal on decorative and fine arts, material culture, preservation and architecture in Texas from the 17th century to the present. Skipper won for her topic “Surviving Survival: City Planning, Historic Preservation and Heritage Politics of St. Paul United Methodist Church.”

The TSHA is a private, nonprofit educational organization housed at the University of North Texas in Denton.
