Two University of Mississippi fraternities came together recently to commemorate the 2,977 lives lost in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, by raising money for their families.
By setting up a tilt page (a new group fundraising app) and gathering donations outside the Student Union, the Phi Delta Theta and Alpha Tau Omega fraternities collectively raised $2,800 for Tuesday’s Children, an organization that serves and supports children and family members who lost loved ones on 9/11.
“It was really humbling to see how much the community responded to help give this cause the recognition it deserves,” said Matt Bolton, philanthropy chair for Phi Delta Theta. “It’s rewarding to have military veterans and family members of the 9/11 victims personally come up to us to express their gratitude.”
For each $1 donated, a small American flag was placed in the fraternity’s front yard to represent each life lost in the attacks.
