OXFORD, Miss. – A University of Mississippi student soon will be making her way to Silver Spring, Maryland, to serve as an intern for the recruiting and internship team at Discovery Channel.
Bella Gonzalez, a senior from Bay St. Louis who is double majoring in marketing and graphic design, will serve in her intern role from May 30 to Aug. 18. She will be responsible for creating graphic content and marketing materials, as well as communicating and associating with the interns to ensure they have the best experience at Discovery.
“It was a huge surprise to even be considered for the internship,” Gonzalez said. “I got the call that I was selected, and ‘overjoyed’ doesn’t even begin to describe the feeling.”
Ginny Chavis, UM chair and professor of art and art history, described Gonzalez as an instructor’s dream student and one she will never forget.
“Not only is she a hard worker; she raises the bar in the classroom,” Chavis said. “Her work ethic rubs off on her peers, and they appreciate her passion.”
Gonzalez said she is excited to be working for a Fortune 500 company and gaining professional experience to further her career as a graphic designer. She said friends are just as blown away as she is at her getting this internship.
“You never know until you try,” Gonzalez said. “I live by that mantra, and it paid off for me.”
