Volleyball Announces 2014 Signing Class

Alexander, Morgan, Thompson to join Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss volleyball team will have three new faces joining them next season as it announced Wednesday the additions of Taylor Alexander, Ashley Morgan and Lexi Thompson.

Alexander, an early enrollee, is a 6-foot-4 middle blocker from Breaux Ridge, La., Morgan is a 5-foot-9 defensive specialist from Plano, Texas, and Thompson is a 6-foot-1 outside hitter from Riverview, Fla. Together, the three newcomers should be fantastic complements to an Ole Miss team that returns 13 student-athletes from its 2013 team.

A three-year letterwinner at Breaux Ridge High School, Alexander was nominated for the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year award. She was a three-time first team all-district selection and was named the district’s MVP as a senior. Alexander was tabbed first team all-state as a junior and helped guide her team to a district championship as a senior.

Morgan comes to Oxford after starting for the varsity team each of the past three seasons. Morgan was an all-state selection as a senior, where she was also voted district MVP. She led Prestonwood Christian Academy to a second-place finish as a junior and a third-place finish as a senior, and was voted to the all-tournament team each year. Ashley was also a first team all-state selection as a junior.

Thompson was a four-year varsity starter at Durant High School, and was named first team all-conference each year. Thompson set the school record for kills as a senior, and was nominated for the Kirkwood Award, which is given to the best volleyball player in the Tampa Bay area. Named the American Division Western Conference best offensive player in each of her first three years, Thompson was tabbed the Plant City Athlete of the Week once as a senior and once as a junior. She was also tabbed first team all-conference in the federal division as a junior.
