Keep calm and carry on during UM emergency exercise

Volunteers needed for emergency drill on Wednesday

There will be an emergency training drill on the Oxford campus on Wednesday, July 31, at 9 a.m. The joint drill, under the supervision of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, will include representatives from the University of Mississippi, the City of Oxford and Lafayette County.

The purpose for the exercise is to give university, city and county officials an opportunity to rehearse their response plans in the event of an emergency. Special effects, including loud explosions and smoke, will be used during the drill to create a realistic atmosphere. The sirens from emergency vehicles will also be heard as they respond to the drill. The university asks that all faculty, staff and students keep calm and carry on. Rest assured that this is only a drill. The exercise will end at noon.

Volunteers are needed for the drill. If you are interested in participating, e-mail oxfordema@oxfordms.net for more information.
